The Replace component replaces a particular word in a text with another specified word.



The Replace component exposes the Control In, Control Out, Data In, and Data Out ports by default.

Port Description
ControlIn Must be connected to the Control Out port of one or more components..
ControlOut Can be connected to the Control In port of another component or the default end component.
Data In The Replace component exposes the following Data In ports by default:

Text: specifies the string which contains the word to replace.
oldvalue : specifies the word to replace (string).
newValue: specifies the new word that will replace the existing word (string).
Data Out Returns the text with after replacing the specified word (object).


To edit the properties of the Replace component, in the Properties window, change the required property. You can edit the following properties.

Property Description
Search for the respective property.
Delay After Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) after the action is performed.
Delay Before Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) before the action is performed.


Let us consider an example.


To replace words in a text:

  1. In the Toolbox, expand Utilities and then expand String Utilities.

  2. Drag the Replace component and drop it on the Design surface.

  3. Double-click the Text box and enter the required string.

  4. Double-click the oldvalue box and enter the word to replace.

  5. Double-click the newValue box and enter the new word.


    You can override the existing data source for the Text, oldvalue and newValue Data In ports.

    To override the existing data source:

    • Right-click the required Data In port.

    • Click Override and change the data source.

  6. To enable display of the updated text:

    • In the Toolbox, expand General.

    • Expand the MessageBox component, drag Show component and drop it on the Design surface.

  7. Connect the control ports and data ports in the activity.

  8. In the toolbar, click Run.
    The message box displays the updated text.


  9. Click OK.
