Variable

The Variable component enables a user store data and pass it to different components as per the automation workflow.

Supported Functions

Intellibot supports Local and Global Variables.

Local: By default, all variables are created locally and are usable within the context of the Activity they are created in.

Global: Global Variables can be created by dragging the variable component from the toolbox to the Global Objects folder under solution explorer. Global Variables, as the name suggests, can be used across Activities.

Variables supports the following Data Types:

  • Object
  • String
  • Integer
  • Long
  • Boolean
  • Float
  • Double
  • Datetime
  • Image
  • List
  • Table
  • Secure String

Ports

The Variable component exposes Control In, Control Out, Data In, and Data Out ports by default.

Port Description
Control In Must be connected to the Control Out port of one or more components.
Control Out Must be connected to the Control In port of any other component.
Data In Must be connected to the Data Out port of another component from where data is to be collected.
Data Out Must be connected to the Data In port of another component from where data is to be provided.

Properties

To edit the properties of the variable component, access the property explorer and change the required property. Users can edit the following properties.

Property Description
Search Search for the respective property.
Delay After Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) after the action is executed.
Delay Before Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) before the action is executed.
Name Specifies the name to identify the component. Set the name to match the application field or task being performed.

Example

Let's consider an example of displaying text in a message box with the help of the variable component.

To use the Variable component:

  1. In the Toolbox, expand General.
  2. Drag the Variable component and drop it in the Design surface.

    For different scenarios, users need different inputs. With the variable component users can provide these different types of inputs. To edit the type of inputs users require:

  3. Double-click the Variable component title bar.
    The VARIABLE CONTAINER dialog box is displayed.

  4. In the dialog box, a list of all variables is displayed. From here a user can:

    • Add a variable by selecting Screenshot sign.
    • Remove a particular variable by selecting Screenshot next to the variable.
    • Change the name of the variable. To do so, double-click the name of the variable.
    • Change the Type of the variable. By default, Type is set to Object. Users can change the type of the variable as per requirement.

  5. Click OK to save the changes.

    Note

    In the variable component, users can also double-click the Variable_1 box, and enter the text to be displayed.

  6. Add a Message Box Show component to display output of the variable component.

  7. To add the Message Box component:

    • In the Toolbox, expand General.
    • Expand the MessageBox component, drag the Show component and drop it on the Design surface.
  8. Connect:
    • The control ports of all components.
    • The Data Out ports of the Variable component to the Data In ports of the MessageBox component.
  9. In the toolbar, click Run.
    The output of the text written in the Variable component is displayed.
