Start App

The Start App component enables users to launch Windows-based and web-based applications. Using this component, users can start various Windows applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Business Applications and also open web pages in Internet Explorer.

Ports

The Start App component exposes Control In, Control Out, Data In Filepath, Data In Args and Data Out windows handle port by default.

Port Description
Control In Must be connected to the Control Out port of one or more components.
Control Out Must be connected to the Control In port of any other component.
Data In Filepath Accepts the path of the application that has to be launched or the URL of the webpage that needs to be opened in the internet explorer browser. Note that to launch web application, the URL has to start with http:// or https://
Data In Args Args is an optional Data In port, and accepts the Command Line Arguments that have to be passed to the application being launched.
Data Out – Window Handle Returns the integer pointer to the application that was launched by the Start App component. Window handle is useful to uniquely identify and interact with multiple applications.

Properties

To edit the properties of the Start App component, in the properties window, change the required property. Users can edit the following properties:

Property Description
Search Search for the respective property.
Delay After Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) after the action is executed.
Delay Before Execution Specifies the wait time (in seconds) before the action is executed.
Height Specifies the height of the application window being launched.
Left Specifies the left edge of the application being lauchned to the left edge of the screen.
Top Specifies the top edge of the application being launced to the top edge of the screen.
Width Specifies the width of the application window being launced.
Max Wait Time in Seconds Specifies the wait time (in seconds) for the application to appear on the screen. The default value is set to 30 seconds.
Wait for Start Specifies the wait time (in seconds) before the action is executed.
State Specifies the state in which the Windows based or web-based application is launched, i.e. normal, maximized, minimized, hidden or custom location.

Example

Let us consider an example of starting a windows based application like the calculator.

To use the Start App component:

  1. In the Toolbox, expand General.
  2. Drag the Start App component and drop it on the Design surface.
  3. In Filepath box, enter the link to the Filepath of the application.

  4. Users can override the existing data source for the Filepath Data In port.

  5. To override the existing data source:

    • Right-click the required Data In port.
    • Click Override and change the data source.

    Note

    To open a link on a web-based application, users must enter the entire link to a website in the Filepath box. Example: https://www.intellibot.io

  6. In Args box, enter any arguments for the application a user wants to open.

  7. Users can override the existing data source for the Args Data In port.

  8. To override the existing data source:

    • Right-click the required Data In port.
    • Click Override and change the data source.
